Description
The "Bridge of Sighs" so named for the prisoners who were convicted in the Doge's Palace on the left passed through this bridge to the prison on the right. The two tiny windows in the bridge would give the prisoner one last glimpse of beautiful Venice...... and sigh. The faces (or mascarons) on either side of the bridge arch were meant to ward off evil spirits.
